Kuala Lumpar, Malaysia

We arrived in Kuala Lumpar....seems to have good infrastructure....big modern city....but still has the street food, interesting smells and craziness of Asia. We met up with our friends Sarah & Jeff and Liz & Mike from Portland, OR. We would be attending the World Interhash. Lot's of running to come!
Jeff has been dreaming of feet eating fish. We went to the mall and Dean and Jeff let the "cleaners" suck on their toes. Apparently not good for those who are ticklish. They say that it gets rid of calluses....but we didn't see any difference in their feet.

We stayed in chinatown. Lot's of streetmarkets and interesting foods. KL is a blend of Indian, Chinese and Malaysian...

Chicken Frogs...patiently waiting to be eaten. They come in many varieties...stir fried, deep fried, steamed....with ginger, chinese herbs, salt and pepper....which would you like?

Jeff decided to partake. I had a bite...tasted like chicken...but the texture is slimy...and you have to watch out for the tiny bones.

The Petronas Towers. The worlds tallest buildings from 1998 to 2004. They do remain the tallest "twin" towers. Beautiful at night!

Imbi market...a big breakfast and wet (produce/meat) market. A bit challenging to find (death march in the heat...oops..my idea) but the food was amazing. I had an oyster/peanut congee (rice porridge) and a coconut rice with spicy beans wrapped in banana leaf.
We did the Batu hash. We were told it would take a "little over an hour" and "would not be that hard." The six Oregonian hashers all agree....it was the hardest trail we've ever done. Straight up (and then down) a mountain in the jungle. It POURED rain. The mud was so slick that you could not walk without holding onto trees or vines....or crawling on your hands and knees. My knee took a beating....I was supposed to slide backwards down a "cliff"...but instead grabbed onto a vine and took the quick way down...on my knee. It got very dark...and the jungle noises were amazing! We all survived...with good stories to tell!

The good news is that the Batu hashers are incredibly fun! We had a huge dinner afterwards...with fresh seafood and guiness beer. We made a lot of friends that night! Great way to kick off the Interhash week....now on to Borneo!
